Why is There a Devil… Just a Fictional Character…

Posted by apwood on April 16, 2009

So.. although I would consider myself a very spiritual person… I’ve never been religious.

I was baptized in two different christian religions and made to attend church as a child – which was good.  I learned the bible teachings, different religious philosophies, and the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ aspects of religion. (which is a whole other post)

In a nutshell, I think religion can be a ‘good’ thing offering people peace, fellowship, and purpose.  But, for me, the ‘bad’ fear-based teachings that you must be ‘a good person’ or you will find yourself face to face with the DEVIL when you die was always a problem for me.

Even as a young child it seemed backwards to teach love and acceptance for fear of hell.  Just never resonated with me.

So I chose as an adult to read about other religions and find what spirituality meant to me without participating in religion.  I found that unconditional love, acceptance, and non-judgment were the basics that made the most sense.  They feel good and right to me.

For me, I do believe that I have an obligation (mostly to myself and my evolvement) to strive to be a ‘good’ person.

Honesty, loyalty, unconditional acceptance, love, kindness, and giving are all words that I would hope one day would be words that those who knew me would use to describe who I was.

All of this I feel is important because of who I want to be not what I fear will happen to me if I do not.

I do not believe there is a separate entity named the ‘Devil’  although i do think the pain we may cause ourselves and others through unkind acts could be dark and painful, which could describe the despair we may feel.

I receive a daily email from Abraham-Hicks Publications.  They are excerpts from their teachings.  I was moved to share this as it seemed to sum up my underlying disbelief in a devil.

The “devil” is a fictional character made up (and perpetuated) by insecure humans who want to control other insecure humans. There’s a lot of power in fear, isn’t there? There shouldn’t be, because, really, what fear is, is power-less. If you understood Source, as we do, you would never fashion such fiction because there is only Well-Being that flows from that which is your Source.

Excerpted from the workshop in North Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, March 6th, 2004

Our Love,
Jerry and Esther

I found this very powerful.

I also was moved to look at fear as something that i do to myself to take my own power away.

Wow…. it takes one sentence to change a perspective.  It can be said a hundred different ways but maybe only one really makes it clear.  Writing is a beautiful thing.

Wishing you a wonderful day!

Why SHOULD You Vote for Angel in the Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest?

Posted by apwood on January 30, 2009

Because it is for a great cause!

Hi! My pet has something to ask you: Will you vote for her in the Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest – and help save other pets’ lives at the same time?

See my pet’s picture and message below. Helping animals is really important to me, and your donation will not only help my pet in the contest, but will save pets’ lives by reducing pet overpopulation. Thanks!

Angel Marie Butler

Hi!

I’m Angel Marie Butler. The person who takes care of me, Amy, has entered me in The Humane Society of the United States’ and Humane Society International’s Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest.

Now I need your vote to help me win some cool prizes — and to help me raise critical funds for spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation. Go here to vote for me by making a small donation to my sponsored charity!

To celebrate the 15th annual Spay Day on February 24, 2009, The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International are telling everyone how spaying and neutering improves pets’ lives. In addition to making pets better, more affectionate companions, spaying and neutering helps animals live longer and healthier.

To enter the photo contest, my caregiver submitted this picture and wrote a few nice words about me. The rest is up to you: This is one contest in which you can “buy” votes — and that’s exactly what I’m asking you to do. In this contest, every US $1 you donate in my name both supports spay/neuter and awards me one vote in the contest! If I finish in the top 500, I’ll win some sweet prizes.

I’d appreciate your vote and donation today, but if you’d like to enter your own pet in the contest, then please do—I can handle some friendly competition! And if you want to stay on top of how I am doing in the contest, visit the Search Pets page and search for me by name.

You can now also find me on Facebook! You can share my entry with your family and friends — on Facebook.

Enter your pet in the contest and donate to vote today. You may enter the contest until 5 p.m., Eastern Time, on February 27, 2009; voting ends at midnight, Eastern Time, on March 6, 2009.

Sincerely,
Angel Marie Butler

Sick? Sinus Infection? Pain? Why Acupuncture May Work Better than Drugs.

Posted by apwood on December 9, 2008

CB032919

It does for me!

My first experience with Acupuncture was about a year and a half ago.  I’d been under a lot of stress and I wasn’t taking great care of myself so I came down with a sinus infection.  After trying a few natural therapies like a Nettie pot, sleep, etc – I went to my MD.  I’d had a low grade fever for a week and nothing seemed to be working.

He gave me an antibiotic that I was to take for a week.  Which i did and still nothing.  I still had the low grade fever and the sinus pain.  I went back because I was feeling even worse.  He prescribed me a stronger antibiotic this time for 10 days.

It just didn’t seem right so I decided to give Acupuncture a try instead.  I went to Chester County Herbs & Acupuncture and saw Margaret Sheehan. (West Chester, PA)  She was friendly and knowledgeable, explaining what she was doing and how it all worked.

A few tiny painless needles in my sinuses and an hour later I was on my way home.  I was able to breathe, the pain was about gone, and I was really relaxed!  The next morning I took my temperature and my fever was gone!  Wow, I was surprised too!

I felt better in 24 hours – naturally!  I’ll take that any day over 2 weeks of antibiotics that kill all the bacteria even the good bacteria in my body!  (If you’ve already been on antibiotics and need to replace the ‘good’ bacteria look into a quality probiotic to do this!)

Are you unfamiliar and wondering what Acupuncture is?

Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile disposable needles into specific points on the body to improve energy, relieve stress, alleviate pain and improve function.

Oriental Medicine refers to the energy force running throughout the body as Qi (roughly pronounced Chee). Qi travels throughout the body along “Meridians” or special pathways. Energy constantly flows up and down these pathways. A person’s health is influenced by the flow of Qi in the body. If the flow of Qi is insufficient, unbalanced or interrupted, illness may occur. Acupuncture is used to restore balance to the Qi and to promote healing.

Acupuncture points are specific locations where the Meridians come to the surface of the skin, and are easily accessible by “needling,” Acupuncture needles are disposible. They are used once and disgarded in accordance with medical biohazard regulations and guidlines. Moxibustion and Acupressure are completely non-invasive treatments based on Meridian theory that are often used as complementary treatments to Acupuncture.

My treatments have alleviated sinus issues, pain (IE- knee, elbow, back etc), and much more!

Wouldn’t you rather feel better naturally without the side effects of antibiotics if they weren’t completely necessary?

Wouldn’t you rather boost your immune system naturally with Acupuncture?

Since then I always use Acupuncture as my first choice for treatment!  Check out Chester County Herbs & Acupuncture if you are in Pennsylvania or the surrounding area.  It is worth it!  You are worth it!

To Your Health,

Amy

Why Did My Recycling Get Bigger & My Trash got Smaller?

Posted by apwood on October 13, 2008

Because I found out how to do it! Sounds silly but I did not get the “Recycle Instructions” when I moved into my current home.  The only thing I knew was that you threw the metal cans and glass bottles in the green recycle bin.  I also saw some people putting out boxes (that were broken down) so when I ordered something that came in a box, I did the same.

When my daughter’s school did a recycling drive (where you could bring in catalogs and magazines to recycle) I got to thinking that there had to be so much more I could be doing.

Then I saw on TV that one Pizza chain in NY City recycles their pizza boxes.

I began to try and find more about recycling online. I didn’t have much look searching so I called my local borough.  The lady was very kind and offered to send me out the instructions.  Which she did.

I’ve now cut my trash in 1/2 and doubled my recycling!

How? Well, All of the paper I was throwing in my trash can (i.e. – junk mail, shredded bills, magazines, paper etc) all goes in a brown paper bag next to my recycling bin.

I also took the box thing a step further by breaking down every box (i.e. – cereal, cracker, popcorn) and I mean every box!  Then I tie them up and place them next to my recycling bin.

It is amazing how much of a difference it makes!  It may take a few extra seconds to break the box down, and a few extra minutes on the day of pick up to tie up the boxes, but knowing that I’m doing my part to help preserve our beautiful Earth makes it so worth it to me.

I was also happy to see that my local grocery store now has boxes for you to recycle plastic bags and batteries!

If you live in Chester County Pennslyvania, here is a link to the Solid Waste Authority. You can drop off computers, cell phones, and motor oil and such.

It has become something I think about now and I look forward to when everything is recycled.

Why should we keep dumping plastic bags full of things that we don’t recycle to sit in holes in the Earth?

There is more on the NO side of the recycling instructions then the YES.  Why can’t we recycle napkins, milk cartons, juice boxes, pet food bags, photographs, plastic envelopes, light bulbs and so on?

I hope it becomes a priority and one day sooner than later all we get is really big recycling bins and no more trash cans!

Why Is Drugging Children Legal?

Posted by apwood on June 19, 2008

This video is eye opening!

In the last few years, I’ve become aware of the over medication in general in this country with antibiotics and vaccines. Having worked with children with Autism and other childhood disorders, I also saw first hand the large amount of medications used to control’ their behaviors.

But this was new to me that abused and neglected children are NOT given the help that they need, but some drugs to numb them.

Weird. If they went out and used illegal drugs to numb themselves they would be arrested and incarcerated, BUT if the pharmaceutical companies do this to them – it is in their best interests.

Big pharma seems to have no end. Money and Greed are ruining our children’s future.

I found this video on my Dr. Mercola newsletter today – and had to share. I found the ‘previous pharmaceutical rep’ speaking at the end of the video to be so enlightening. She clearly states that the pharmaceutical companies motivation is money.

There are so many people working FOR children to help them, so how do we stop money and greed from destroying these efforts?

Why SHOULD YOU Help Shut Down Puppy Mills?

Posted by apwood on April 4, 2008

puppy-mills.jpg

Dear Friend,

Do you know about puppy mills? If you don’t — and even if you do — then you’ve got to watch this undercover video:

http://humanesociety.org/stoppuppymills

Puppy mills are large scale operations that force breeder dogs to produce litter after litter to support consumer demand for puppies. Puppies sold in pet stores or through Internet sites come from places filled with suffering, disease, malnutrition, and loneliness. Even the puppies themselves are often prone to a variety of diseases. Some die within days or weeks of purchase.

The Humane Society of the United States is working to stop puppy mills and they need your help.

Please watch this short video that exposes the cruelty of puppy mills. Then, you can take action by pledging to stop supporting the retailers that perpetuate cruel breeding practices.

http://humanesociety.org/stoppuppymills

Thanks for taking action!

I signed up today after my friend Carey sent me this video – this is the email to share to let others know about this travesty. You can also learn more on Oprah today – her show is about Puppy Mills.

Why Do Opposites Attract?

Posted by apwood on January 14, 2008

    img_4539-2.jpg

    • I’m emotional – which means that I cry, yell, get mad, act silly, and laugh – usually all within the same day, almost daily. He is calm and introspective.
    • I hate driving a lot. He loves it.
    • I’m extremely affectionate. He would forget to kiss me hello or goodbye if I didn’t remind him!
    • I love vegetables. He doesn’t care for any and probably wouldn’t eat them if I didn’t make him (except corn – which really doesn’t count!)
    • I have light hair, eyes, and skin. He has dark hair, eyes, and skin.
    • I, for most of my life, didn’t have much faith. He is full of it, always believing.

So WHY do I love him – and can only see a future with him? I’m crazy? Like Self-torture? or is there a reason we are attracted to each other?

Do we love in the other which we are lacking because we admire it or want to become more balanced? Maybe a little but some of these differences cause fights, hurt feelings, etc.

Are we suppose to learn acceptance of differences, which is easier to do when there is love?

After years of reading…. what I think I’ve learned is that if you truly love someone, you love them for who they are no matter what. To become a master of this, not letting any differences cause you distress would be the ultimate goal.

Have I attained this level, No. I am still trying. But every night before I go to sleep, I hug and kiss him and know that there is no one else for me.
